Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Kala Ghoda

India will be hosting the Science Film Festival from 1 October till 13 December 2019. The national partner for India will be the National Council for Science Museums (NCSM) through their network of science museums, science centers and auditoriums in many cities. Goethe-Institut will be hosting screenings at various science institutions all over the country in collaboration with NCSM. Each of the screenings will be accompanied by activities and workshops.

In Mumbai there will be screenings at the Nehru Science Centre plus the two other museums, namely CSMVS and BDL. Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai will also hold special shows for students of aided schools who may not have screening facilities.

The theme of this years festival is Humboldt & the web of life. Alexander von Humboldt revolutionized the conception of nature by defining it as an interconnected living web - and in doing so, inspired countless scientists, environmentalists, writers and artists alike. On the 250 Year Anniversary of Humboldt’s birth, we need such a global perspective more than ever. The Science Film Festival 2019 aims to highlight the relevance of this view in the 21st century in regard to environmentalism, climate change and sustainability.

Institutions may choose from a range of films on offer, three films for early learners (age 5-8), four films for the age group 9 - 12 years (middle school) and eight films for the ages of 12 - 16 years (senior school), and ten films for the ages 17+ years (college and university) based on the length of time available and how they wish to build this programme into their other activities. The films will be shared with participating institutions to be screened on campus itself. A list of associated experiment activities and related training instructions will also be shared so that educators can choose to work with their students to make this programme more interactive and practical.

The films may be screened on any dates that suit your school calendar, between October 1 - Dec 13, 2019. The festival is free and open to everyone.
