The 26th edition of New Delhi World Book Fair will be held from 6 to 14 January 2018 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi with European Union as the Guest of Honour. This year the events and programs held at the fair will majorly revolve around the theme climate change and environment

The book fair will witness author interactions, film/documentaries screenings, book releases and seminars. There will also be many literary and publishing programs and panel discussions among them are the events initiated by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan.

 
  • Lazy Sunday of LiteratureS
Join in for a Sunday literary event on 7th January, 2018, 1430 at the International Corner.Lazy Sundays of LiteratureS is a literary European event, featuring 12 authors from 9 countries

A number of European authors will present readings of their texts in their respective languages as well as in English and will be clubbed together in different sessions. The German novelist- filmmaker Norman Ohler will represent Germany and will read from his highly acclaimed first non-fiction book Der totale Rausch, translated as Blitzed - Drugs in Nazi Germany. David Foenkinos from France, Laurence Boissiere from Switzerland, Dorothea Nürnberg from Austria, and many other established and popular authors would also grace the lazy literary afternoon with their participation.

  • Panel Discussion: Creative Resistance : Writers in the face of Fascism and War
On 11th January, 1500 at the EU Pavilion , the panelist Uday Prakash (Hindi writer), Sanjeev Kumar (Hindi literary critic), Amar Farooqui (Professor of History, DU), Anil Bhatti (Retd Professor of German Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University) and Vibha Maurya (Retd Professor of Hispanic Studies, Delhi University) will discuss about the inter-war period that was marked by the rise of fascist, authoritarian regimes in many parts of Europe and will also focus on the idea of translation as a collective endeavor.

The discussion is evolving around a translation project conducted at Delhi University. Texts translated from German, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian into Hindi will be published by Rajkamal Prakashan later in 2018 under the title Andhere Daur Ki Roshan (Helle Geschichten in finsteren Zeiten).

 
  • Book launch: Anthology of Contemporary German Short Stories in Hindi (Stil der Zeit)
Stil der Zeit is an anthology of short stories by contemporary German authors translated into Hindi.The book launch along with a panel discussion and readings will be on 11th January, 1600 at International Corner. Uday Prakash (Hindi writer), Sanjeev Kumar (Hindi literary critic) and Anil Bhatti (Retd Professor of German Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University) will talk about contemporary German literature, its relevance for the Indian reader and the challenges of translating into Hindi.
