The Jazz Conductor by Lekha Naidu © Sandbox Collective The Jazz Conductor is the third staged reading in this year’s German Spotlight series, which is happening for the 4th time at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore. The play is translated from the German play Der Jazz-Dirigent by Wolfgang Sréter and is directed by Lekha Naidu.

About the show
The play speaks of music and war and hope the way only a lover full of dreams can. It speaks of dissent and the forces out to crush it, quietly gives evidence against free will, without appearing too cynical and brings to life the romance and nostalgia of the jazz age, love for theatre and good old family amidst unspeakable horrors.

Cast: Ahalya Narayanan, Cassandra Eltham, Nina Karun and Swethlana Saraswat.

Lekha Naidu © Sidhaartha Maadhyamika About the Director
When not reluctantly explaining to curious people what she does for a living, Lekha Naidu is either facilitating a class for young theatre enthusiasts or rigging lights or translating plays and other pieces of literature from English to Kannada and vice versa or planning photo shoots while finding ways to get on stage and perform.

She is the creative director of Avala Hejje, a social enterprise. She is also trying to run a multilingual theatre collective – Sāpēksha, with her writing and translation partner, Sidhaartha Maadhyamika.

German Spotlight is curated and presented by Sandbox Collective in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore.
