A sophisticated portrayal of the year 1954. Germany’s unexpected win of the world championship in Bern is connected to the rough everyday life in the “Ruhrpott”, a region in western Germany. A late returnee from a prisoner-of-war camp has to adapt to his everyday life back home. All is well that ends well. The Germans are world champions and the family is at peace again.
