A lecture by Christin Müller | from the Series Narratives of Contemporary Art
Today artistic photography reflects on the ongoing evolution of the medium. The changing materiality as well as its functions and usages are critical to the discussion. What are the current strategies in image production? How does the constant flow of images influence artistic positions? The lecture discusses contemporary analytical approaches and the search for new photographic languages through the works of photographers that live in Germany.
Christin Müller, is an independent curator who has from 2011 to 2013 worked as a research fellow in the program Museum Curators for Photography, and eventually curated the exhibition Cross Over – Photography of Science + Science of Photography in the Fotomuseum Winterthur. Müller has also assisted photography collector Thomas Walther since 2013, and has been teaching at the University of Leipzig’s Department of Art History. She was the Artistic Director of the 2017 Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie across the cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg along with Florian Ebner. In 2016, Müller curated With/Against the Flow – Contemporary Photographic Interventions with Ebner, with the intention to look at how technology and photographic practices merge to transform our understanding of reality.
Narratives of Contemporary Art - a series of lectures initiated by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai involves senior artists, curators and scholars discuss key concepts, ideas, interpretations and praxis related to Contemporary art practices globally. Begun with the aim to familiarize students and young practitioners with different aspects of contemporary art, this series is also intended to add a new pedagogical dimension to the art and exhibition work of the institute.
