In 1992–93, Malani collaborated with Indian/French theatre actor Alaknanda Samarth on the installation/performance Medeamaterial, adapted from Heiner Müller’s ‘Despoiled Shore: Medeamaterial: Landscape with Argonauts’ at the Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai. An unconventional interdisciplinary project, the performance became a metaphor for the demolition of the Babri Mosque by Hindu Fundamentalists on December 6, 1992 and the carnage that followed after the bomb blasts in Bombay in early 1993. This video film - directed by Malani, is a record of the multimedia collaboration.

This screening is part of the programme associated with Malani’s ongoing solo at the institute titled ‘Can You Hear Me?’ The exhibtion will be open untill 8.30 pm on that day.
