We are happy to support
Urban Fabric, an exhibtion curated by
Suresh Jayaram and
Sagar Shastri.
Bangalore is known for its fabric industry, and the show looks at the city's history of weaving, tailoring, quilting, and the skills/labour of those who have contributed to this diverse material culture and living tradition, looking beyond the fabric to weave a narrative that involves artists who have used textiles in different forms to speak about tradition, change, and conflict.
This community project, that archives the diversity and the cosmopolitan nature of Bangalore, documents the city’s culture through fabric. Tracing shifts from handlooms to power looms, and from hand-tailoring to garment factories, the project brings together works of artists who have focused on the labour, materials, craft skills, micro-narratives, and textile in the city.
