M.A.P. // A.M.P. is a project by Goethe-Institut seeking to capture, document, explore and invite music, poetry, research, and discourse on the intersections of music and activism in South Asia. The acronym tries to capture the different aspects, a programme on activist music could potentially focus on: Music and Protest, Activism, Politics, Multiplicity, Action, People, Agency, Metamorphosis, Power, and so on. The thematic frame of M.A.P // A.M.P interfaces with other topics, especially pertaining to civil society, minorities, feminism, and queer activism. The project is composed of a multitude of complementary elements that will unfurl over a period of time, including a radio programme, a music library, a series of podcasts, etc., and aims to create, foster, and share new content.
The M.A.P // A.M.P is a live event performed by artists who believe strongly in music with a cause.
This event features:
Sheetal Sathe and the Navayan Mahajalsa. Lok Shahirs: folk musicians and Dalit rights activist from Satara, Maharashtra who use music as a form of protest to highlight the societal oppression of Women and Dalits. They have been the cultural voice at the forefront of the anti-caste for over a decade, aiming to bring about a cultural revolution through music. Singing songs of ordinary people, especially Dalits, Sheetal Sathe has been singing of the marginalised, Dalits, and others all over Maharashtra and the Indian subcontinent alike.
Deepak Peace: singer-songwriter from Pune. With his guitar, harmonica & his folk band to accompany, he sings satire. His debut album 'Aaj Ke Naam' (released in Feb 2017) received rave reviews from RockStreet Journal, Rolling Stone India, Deccan Chronicle and more. He was been nominated for prestigious Toto Music Awards 2017. He sings in hindi, urdu and the language of today. He along with the band have performed at intimate settings like sofar sounds, libraries, cozy cafes, underground festivals. His original ballads speak of our changing times. Of never-ending struggles across the land, irony of the middle class, love and free spirit!
The Gandhaar Amin Project: Gandhaar Amin (Music composer, Producer and Flute player), along with his band will present compositions from their latest EP Woh Bhi Toh Hai. The primary goal of the album ‘Woh Bhi Toh Hai’ is to create awareness about multiple stories. To encourage people to explore more than one story about someone you hate, and look at them from multiple angles. Every coin has two sides to it. It further encourages people to stop looking at just one side and deciding that the coin is worthless. It is easier to hate than to love, but good things come from choosing the difficult path.
