Let no one mistake us for the fruit of Violence

Exhibition|An exhibition curated by Vidisha Fadescha, Party Office.

  • Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata, Kolkata

  • Part of series: Open House Day

About the exhibition:

Expressions from five artists reflect on prevailing and isolated representations of men, while celebrating gender affinities through collectivity, home, family, and intimacy. The art works focus on gender constructions and patriarchal forms of aggression on bodies more vulnerable.

“All this time I told myself we were born from war — but I was wrong, Ma. We were born from beauty. Let no one mistake us for the fruit of violence—but rather, that violence, having passed through the fruit, failed to spoil it”, Ocean Vuong writes to his mother, in his novel ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’. There might be a story about us, an expectation to perform, but it is upon us to re-narrate it, to heal and then present ourselves.

Artists: Tsohil Bhatia, Renuka Rajiv, Sandip Kuriakose, Ashfika Rahman and Javed Sultan.

The exhibition includes drawings, photographs and video art.
