State of Emergency (Im Ausnahmezustand), written by Falk Richter and translated into English by David Tushingham, is the third reading in this year's German SpotlightVenkatesh  Prasad directs the English reading of the play.

About the play:
Having finally 'made it' in the world that perceives success as a secure home and neighbourhood, a man and woman continue to reel under the pressure of the unsafe, outside world. A small fracture in the socio-economic structure could collapse their carefully constructed reality and they could find themselves thrown out of their 'gated community'. Under such circumstances anything and anyone could turn into an enemy agent who will betray them - even the son or husband. A late night conversation turns into an interrogation and spirals into a duel.

"Personal is political and political is personal. This is the right way, according to me, to describe Falk Richter's play 'State of Emergency'. The best thing I liked about the play and probably the primary reason to choose it is that this play is very universal and can be set in any country and at any time. It is very political and at the same time, very personal, too. This play is simple yet complex, light yet intense, and again, personal yet very political!"
