Too Far Away is an entertaining
football drama set in Germany.
A friendship born from anthropogenic loss of home: when the village where 11-year-old Ben and his family live has to give way to open-cast lignite mining, they move to the city. There, Ben meets Tariq, whose family has fled Syria. Though they start out as competitors, the shared experience of a new beginning soon welds them together at school as well as the football club.
Sarah Winkenstette was born in 1980 in Rheda-Widenbrück. She studied at KHM Cologne. With her short movies for children she has been awarded with many awards, among them the Gyphon at the Giffoni Film Festival. Since 2011 she is a freelance director.
Too Far Away is her debut feature film and won the
2021 German Film Critics Award for the
Best Children's Film.
