Concert Mariana Sadovska & Jarry Singla

Ukraine Concert at IHC © Embassy of Ukraine in India

Wednesday, 1 March 2023, 19:00

India Habitat Centre (IHC), Lodhi Road

An evening of beautiful melodies and songs, inspired by Ukrainian and Indian traditional music. The artists performing this concert are Mariana Sadovska, Ukraine (Vocal) and Jarry Singla, Germany (Piano).

A collaboration between the Embassy of Ukraine in India, the Polish Institute, New Delhi, and Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi.

Eastern European critics call her the ”Ukrainian Bjork”. In her energetic programmes, Mariana Sadovska – singer, actress and composer - creates a fusion of folk and avant-garde; archaic midsummer night invocations, wedding songs and emigrant chants from remote villages in rural Ukraine are transfigured into contemporary sound. Creating her own innovative compositions and arrangements in dialogue with ancient traditions, Mariana approaches each piece with a fresh and uniquely personal vision. Her vocal power and range even prompted the New York Times to compare her with rock star Polly Jean Harvey.

The Indo-German pianist and composer Jarry Singla has always been crossing borders between the most diverse musical worlds. Several years of stays in Mexico City, New York, Paris, Mumbai and La Paz opened his heart and mind, intensive musical collaborations in Buenos Aires, Katowice and Kiev promoted his successful search for a way past all dogmas, for a fresh, refined and exciting sound between jazz and ethnic inspiration.
