Into the Beat, directed by
Stefan Westerwelle.
The rigorous training for a scholarship at the New York Ballet Academy is almost a matter of course for the Hamburg ballet student Katya, as she is the daughter of Victor Orlow. Orlow, a celebrated ballet dancer, has raised Katya and her younger brother Paul as a single father since the death of his wife. With only three weeks to go until the audition, the training of her dance teacher is merciless.
One day while underway, Katya discovers a factory building where people are dancing – but to completely different sounds and with brash, acrobatic movements. As she immerses herself into this young and energetic hip-hop dance scene, she gains a sense of freedom and acknowledgement, and also gets to know the dancer Marlon. But the more she realises that this is her form of expression, the greater the conflict with her beloved father, who has not been able to dance on stage since an accident. The daughter feels obliged to continue the family tradition of ballet. Katya has to make a decision.
