A puppeteer and a percussionist take us on a fascinating journey into wooden figures and the sounds of wood for children and adults!

Performance: Michael Lurse
Percussion: Marko Werner
Theatre Pedagogy: Matthias Damberg

It might be as big as a tree or as small as a tiny splinter. It might be furniture or paper – wood surrounds us every day. The performers create figures and creatures, objects and tools and find out what wood can become in surprisingly new ways.
Not only the scenery causes enthusiasm, but also the wood figures created by Michael Lurse, which again and again suddenly emerges from the wood chips and disappears again. There are wooden figures that look like animals. They look for a play fellow, hop around, make merry sounds or balance on the tree disks. Through these figures Lurse represents not only feelings, but produces in them also small spectators.
Apart from the visual aspects however the performance gives a special sound experience. Lurse and the Percussionist Werner take children as well as adults into a world of wooden sounds: The wood whines, wood logs are struck together, the wood chips rustle and the figures clear their ways with knocking and hammering through the wooden landscape.
…A piece of rumpled paper flutters in the wind and small wood logs become towers.
…With “WOODBEAT” under the direction of Barbara Kölling the HELIOS Theater shows another wonderful performance for the very young. It is part of the county wide project “theatre from the beginning” and was developed in co-operation with the Théâtre Jeune Public from Strasbourg.
