A German choreographer with an intense interest in mythology, whose work seems like a contemporary call to myths like the Odyssey and Iliad, reaches India, meets artists and collaborators in a land where there is no real distinction between mythology and reality. The gods and warriors from the myths exist in the midst of contemporary day-to-day life in India.
Ramanaya is a collaboration that brings together German Choreographer/Director and
former
bangaloREsident@Sandbox Collective Felix Mathias Ott, his partner in art
Benjamin Brix and two collaborators/performers from India,
Vinod Ravidran and
Puja Sarup. This residency is the adhesive, the in between so to speak, that will create the multimedia film to help this process-oriented residency to move towards its ultimate destination - the performance.
Synopsis:
Two storytellers attempt a playful exploration of the mighty
Ramayana starting with a model constructed with recycled material. Having found an entry into the myth, they find themselves carried way on the infinitive streams of consciousness as they use the model to discuss the various scenarios within the myth.
The model begins to expand and unfolds complex paths, letting them discover new perspectives, as the myth reveals itself in new, unknown ways. The audience is invited to join the performers on this journey, perhaps even find answers to the questions that confront them.
