National Youth Orchestra of Germany

India & Germany – Nature enforces Weather, Music unites!

The forth-coming concert tour of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany to India has been themed musically as ‘Weather and Forces of Nature’. On the one hand compositional works that deal with forces of nature and weather phenomena would be the focus, and on the other the inter-cultural cooperation and improvisation between Indian and German musicians through workshops and presentations. The highlight of this concert would be to anchor the final representation of the public art event of the excellency project ‘Embrace Our Rivers’ of the Goethe-Institut Chennai, especially through the encounter and exchange between German and Indian musicians, through a direct interaction getting to know the culture of two diversified nations.
Comprising of Germany’s finest young musicians, all teenagers, and recognized world-wide as the young cultural ambassadors of Germany, this highly acclaimed and renowned National Youth Orchestra’s visit to India and their grand performance at The Music Academy in Chennai, will be an exclusive experience of the most authentic Western classical music to all the people of Chennai, a city with a rich cultural heritage of traditional music and dance. This is of course an opportunity not to be missed for up-coming musicians who define and design the present day music scene in India.

As an inter-cultural initiative the orchestra incorporates significant orchestral works from all periods, contemporary music and premieres of new compositions are also an integral part of the repertoire. The engagement with great musical literature, the work with professional musicians from Germany’s finest orchestras and universities, as well as encounters with other like-minded young artists contribute towards a very special engagement from the musicians which in turn offers an unforgettable experience for the listeners.

Tours have taken the group throughout Europe, as well as to Asia, Africa, and North and South America. The orchestra has participated in numerous projects of historical significance and they are here to perform especially to anchor the final outcome of the Excellency project of Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai, EMBRACE OUR RIVERS as a curtain raiser to an exclusive exhibition that depicts this unrealized project combined with a book launch and cultural events. As the German National Youth Orchestra will be performing on the eve of India’s Republic Day, they will commemorate this coincidence by rendering the Indian National Anthem as a fitting finale to the repertoire.

When these youthful elite musicians play, they produce a sound that thrills and inspires soloists, conductors, audiences, and critics. The German National Youth Orchestra has had a lasting influence on the country’s musical life: many former members now play in professional orchestras or are well-known soloists world-wide.

The concert-performance of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany as a curtain raiser to Embrace Our Rivers – DAMned Art project of Goethe-Institut Chennai will be held at the Music Academy, one of the most prestigious organizations for promoting the fine arts of music and dance.
