THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND ITS DISCONTENTS.

This lecture will discuss the relationship between Home and the City through an elaboration on the idea of the neighbourhood. The idea of Home changes with time and so does our sense of living together as family and neighbours. We often miss the intricate relationship that people and families have to the homes they create, build and grow within, over generations of living in the city and that these homes in turn create networks and geographies of kinship and work across the city - building and creating the neighbourhoods a city is structured into.

Kaiwan Mehta is a theorist and critic in the fields of visual culture, architecture and city studies and is the mananging editor of Domus India. He has authored Alice in Bhuleshwar: Navigating a Mumbai Neighbourhoud (Yoda Press, New Delhi, 2009) and The Architecture of I M Kadri (Niyogi, New Delhi, 2016) He is a co-curator, with Rahul Mehrotra and Ranjit Hoskote of State of Housing: Aspirations, Imaginaries and Realities in India.
