TOLEDO-Reading Isabel Fargo Cole: "Die grüne Grenze" (Edition Nautilus)

Isabel Fargo Cole will read from her novel "Die grüne Grenze" (The Green Frontier), which was nominated for the 2018 Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair. She will also discuss and read from her English translations of German-language works such as Wolfgang Hilbig's "Alte Abdeckerei" (Old Rendering Plant) and Franz Fühmann's "Vor Feuerschlünden" (At the Burning Abyss). Subroto Saha will moderate and read several passages from "Die grüne Grenze" in his Bengali translation.

Isabel Fargo Cole was born in Galena, Illinois, USA in 1973, grew up in New York City and studied at the University of Chicago. Since 1995 she has lived in Berlin as a writer and translator of such writers as Wolfgang Hilbig and Franz Fühmann. Her debut novel, "Die grüne Grenze", was published in 2017 and nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2018.

Subroto Saha, a translator of texts from German to Bengali since 1997, including his recent publication “Selected Poems of Hans Magnus Enzensberger”. He has participated in numerous translation projects and bilingual author programs; and has been teaching German language at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata for several years.

Isabel Fargo Cole is visiting Kolkata on the invitation of the TOLEDO program.
