Artists Velibor Božović (Bosnia-Herzegovina/Canada) and Amol K. Patil (India) will discuss the role of listening in their art practice and its relevance to the artworks they present in the exhibition.
Velibor Božović grew up in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. When he was in his twenties, the country of his youth became a war zone and Božović spent the duration of the siege of Sarajevo honing his survival skills. In 1999, Božović moved to Montréal where he worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry before he gave it up for his artistic practice. Božović holds an MFA degree from Concordia University, where he currently teaches. His work has been exhibited at Patrick Mikhail Gallery, Montréal; National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo; Galerie Dazibao, Montréal; Ismaili Centre, Toronto; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; and the University of North Texas, Denton. Božović lives in Montréal, Canada.
Amol K. Patil’s practice is concerned with histories of the working class, migration, and the city. Patil draws from the archive left by his poet grandfather and playwright father, who also worked for the city corporation, to investigate the relationship of labour and desire to the body. Patil has presented his videos, sculptures, drawings and performances at The Showroom, London; Tensta konsthall, Stockholm; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Pune Biennale; Dak’art Biennale; Myymälä2, Helsinki; Japan Foundation, Delhi; Stedelijk Museum Bureau, Amsterdam; Para Site, Hong Kong; Kadist Art Foundation, Paris; and the Transnational Pavillionm, 55th Venice Biennale, 2013. Patil lives in Mumbai, India.
