Four Festivals Receive NET Funding
Following the jury meeting, the decision has been made: four festivals will receive funding through the NET Excellence Project this year. After discussing the submitted proposals in detail, the jury selected four projects that will now move into the preparation phase.
Dengêbj û Govend – Sinuni, Shingal
The festival focuses on Dengbêj singing and Govend dance. Taking place in Sinuni, it brings traditional music and dance together with the local community and creates opportunities, especially for younger generations, to engage with and learn about Kurdish cultural traditions.
Runaki Festival – Sulaymaniyah
Runaki Festival will take place at the Culture Factory in Sulaymaniyah and brings together different artistic forms and interactive experiences. Rather than simply watching, visitors are invited to take part and experience the festival in different ways.
BAREDAN – Koya
BAREDAN explores the cultural heritage of Koya by turning historic and abandoned houses into temporary spaces for artistic activities and encounters. The festival brings together artists, young people and members of the local community.
Kurdish Folklore Games – Erbil
Taking place in the Erbil Citadel, the festival brings traditional Kurdish games into a shared public space. Children, young people, families and older generations will come together to play, learn about the games and share the stories and knowledge connected to them.
We are looking forward to accompanying the four teams over the coming months and seeing their ideas develop and take shape.
NET supports festivals and cultural initiatives in the Kurdish Region in Iraq, creating opportunities for cultural practitioners and organisations to develop their projects and strengthen cultural exchange.
