Livio Senigalliesi

I am a photojournalist who has always devoted his work to social topics. I feel enthusiastic about this project together with the Goethe-Institut.
The project, which adopts an anthropological approach, will lead my colleague Andrej Liankevich and myself to the frontiers of society, to the people who live in remote places in Belarus and Italy. During this fascinating mission, we will do our best to bring to you human stories on a daily basis through the blog of the Goethe-Institut.  
 

BIOGRAPHIE

My name is Livio Senigalliesi and I was born in Milan, Italy, in 1956. Self-taught photographer, I began my career at the end of the ‘70s using the camera as a tool of social inquiry. I took pictures of social issues, the homeless, immigrants, and workers living in the industrial suburbs.
In the last 40 years my passion for photography as testimony and my attention to historical events have taken me to many of the world’s hot spots: the Middle East and Kurdistan during the Gulf War, Berlin when divided and during reunification, Moscow in the days that marked the end of the Soviet Union, Sarajevo during the siege and all the phases of the conflict in former Yugoslavia.
I am author of many books and photo-exhibitions, I published my reportage in the main national and foreign newspapers such as Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, L'Europeo, L'Espresso, Epoca, Panorama, Le Monde, Avanguardia, El Pais, Libération, Der Spiegel, Die Welt, Berliner Morgenpost, Stern, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Time Magazine, In recent years, I have devoted all my energies to the documentation of migrations,  undertaking extraordinary journeys together with the refugees along the Balkan Route and publishing extensive reports on the condition of life of asylum seekers in Italy.
Apart from exhibitions and publications, I work with schools on educational projects to communicate my own experiences of peace, war and forced migration with a view to opening up  students’ minds and helping them to gain a greater understanding of these processes.
