Mariko Minoguchi

Mariko Minoguchi is half German, half Japanese, and was born in Munich in 1988. She made her first short film at the age of 18. Her feature debut “MEIN ENDE. DEIN ANFANG” premiered in 2019 at the Munich International Film Festival and at the BFI London Film Festival, going on to screen at festivals worldwide. The film received the German Film Critics' Award for Best Debut Film and Best Screenplay.  

Together with director Tim Fehlbaum, she co-wrote the screenplay for his film “TIDES”, which premiered at the Berlinale and reached number one in the US Netflix charts. The film received four German Film Awards and two Bavarian Film Awards. In 2020, Mariko Minoguchi was awarded the Starter Film Prize of the City of Munich.  

In 2023, she created the anthology series “ZEIT VERBRECHEN“(Part: December). The four films premiered in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2024 and were subsequently named German Crime Series of the Year. The series received the German Acting Award for Best Ensemble and the German Television Award for Best Newcomer Actor.  

Her new feature film “DIE ANDERE SEITE”, starring Nina Hoss, will be released in cinemas in autumn 2026.  

During her residency at Villa Kamogawa, Mariko will work on a novel. The story spans a century between Japan and Germany.
