If you already speak German, we offer you a placement test before you register. The placement test takes approximately one hour. You can take a placement test online or at the institute.

Yes. The teachers do not explain the German language in Japanese. They communicate only in German from the beginning. You will start learning how to greet someone, how to introduce yourself, how to pronounce the alphabet and how to ask questions. In this purely German-speaking environment, you will acquire your first language skills that will be useful in Germany.

If you are enrolled in a course that requires textbooks, please check the textbook list below and obtain your copies before the first day of the class. Please note that you do not need to purchase textbooks for online group courses.   Booksellers:  
(Textbooks can be pre-ordered at the Umeda main store's foreign book counter.)
From April 2021, you will need to purchase your textbooks yourself. (We will send you an e-mail at least 7 days prior to the start of your course to let you know if your course has been confirmed).
 

• In case of an official special alarm (特別警報 Tokubetsu-Keiho) or an official storm warning (暴風警報 Bofu-Keiho) in Osaka City two hours or more before the classes begin, the classes at the Goethe-Institute in Osaka shall be cancelled.
