You can book our courses in our webshop. In our course finder, you can find all courses that are currently available.
Should you have difficulties with booking in the webshop or paying by credit card, please contact the language course office.
In our language course offices we can assist you if you wish to book a course in Osaka, Kyoto, Germany or online, or take one of our exams.

Any visits to the Goethe-Institut Osaka Kyoto are only permitted by prior arrangement by telephone (06-6440-5905) or e-mail. We kindly ask all visitors to the institute to adhere to the distance and hygiene rules.

If you are enrolled in a course that requires textbooks, please check the textbook list below and obtain your copies before the first day of the class. Please note that you do not need to purchase textbooks for online group courses. Booksellers:

From April 2021, you will need to purchase your textbooks yourself. (We will send you an e-mail at least 10 days prior to the start of your course to let you know if your course has been confirmed).
 
If you have difficulties to do so, you could still purchase a copy from our limited stock. In this case, please send an e-mail  to the Language Course Office immediately after registering for the course with the following information.
  • Subject: Order of a textbook at the Goethe-Institut Osaka Kyoto
  • Your name
  • Your student number or customer number
  • Your class (level and time: e.g. A1.1 Sat. 9:30-12:45)

Placement Test: Online or at Institut

If you already speak German, we offer you a placement test before you register.
  • The placement test takes approximately one hour. 
  • You can take a placement test online or at the institute.
  • Please contact our language office to make a reservation for the test.

1. General
1.1 The minimum age for participation is 16 years. Exceptions are possible by arrangement with the Language Course Office.
1.2 The maximum course size is 18 participants.
1.3 The language of instruction is German.

2. Enrolment
2.1 Registration and registration are also possible through a representative.
2.2 In order to determine the level, we carry out a placement test for new participants with previous knowledge. The following participants do not need to take a placement test:
- Beginners,
- Participants who have a Goethe-Institut certificate not older - Participants who have attended a course at a Goethe-Institut within the last year.
2.3 We reserve the right to cancel a course with too few participants and to divide an overbooked course. Changes in room occupancy, course administration and course time are possible.than one year,

3. Fees
3.1 It is necessary to choose a course when registering and enrolling. Payment of the course fees must be made by the specified payment deadline. 3.2.
3.2 The course fees do not include the costs for textbooks. Textbooks can be purchased during enrolment at the Goethe-Institut.
3.3 For new participants a registration fee of 5000 Yen is due upon enrolment. Participants from another Goethe-Institut in Japan and Germany are exempt from the registration fee upon presentation of a participant's ID (receipt).
3.4 Upon presentation of a valid student ID card, students will receive a reduction in course fees for courses of 64 units.
3.5 If a course does not take place, the course fees and the registration fee will be refunded in full.

4. Change of course
4.1 A change of course is only possible if the language requirements are met and free space is available.
4.2 In the event of a change to a course with a higher UE number, the difference for the higher course fee becomes due. For courses with a lower number of UEs, the course fees will be refunded accordingly.
4.3 The participant's ID card (receipt) must be presented when changing courses.

5. Withdrawal
5.1 Cancellation up to 5 working days before the start of the course will result in a refund of the course fees already paid, subject to an administration fee of 5000 Yen. The registration fee cannot be refunded.
5.2 In the event of cancellation up to one day before the start of the course, the course fees will be refunded subject to a retention of 20% (rounded up/down to 100 yen). The registration fee will not be refunded.
5.3 In the event of cancellation after the start of the course, the course fees for the UE not yet attended will be refunded subject to a 20% retention (rounding up/down to 100 yen). The registration fee will not be refunded. 5.4.
5.4 In case of cancellation, the receipt must be presented.

6. Personally related non-participation
6.1 If the participant is unable to attend the course for personal reasons, there is no entitlement to make up for missed lessons in other courses.
6.2 If the participant is ill for a longer period of time, the missed lessons can be credited for a subsequent course on presentation of a medical certificate.

7.1 Liability
7.1 The Goethe-Institut shall not be liable for the cancellation of lessons due to natural disasters, force majeure or other reasons for which the Goethe-Institut is not responsible.
7.2 If a course participant harasses teachers or other course participants, disrupts the operation of the course or acts in a manner detrimental to business, the Goethe-Institut has the right to terminate the course contract with the course participant prior to the start of the course but also during an ongoing course and/or to take any necessary additional measures.
  • In case of an official special alarm (特別警報 Tokubetsu-Keiho) or an official storm warning (暴風警報 Bofu-Keiho) in Osaka City two hours or more before the classes begin, the classes at the Goethe-Institute in Osaka shall be cancelled.
