German Language Exams in Osaka

Do you need a certificate for work, study or visa? Would you like to know how good your knowledge of German is? You can take a number of internationally recognised examinations at our Institut.

You can enroll for an exam online. Please go to the page of the exam you’d like to take and make the booking for the desired date.

Registration

Course participants:
Anyone who has attended a course at a Goethe-Institut (worldwide/Japan) within the last six months (counted back from the examination day) pays the price for course participants.
 
Partial Repetition:
If you would like to register for a partial repetition (written or oral) for the A2 or C1 exam, please book the partial repetition using the separate online registration form. In the "Other" section, please indicate the module(s) of the exam you wish to take.

 

Information on the A1 A2 B1 and B2 Certificates and preparatory courses

Preparatory courses for levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 will be offered shortly before the language exams. 

If you have registered and paid for a preparatory course before you register for the language exam, the cheaper registration fees for our students apply.
Exam Preparation Courses

Safety Measures Covid-19

The Goethe-Institut Osaka Kyoto conducts its Goethe-Zertifikat exams in accordance with the Covid-19 safety recommendations of the Japanese authorities.
Distance rules and hygiene measures must still be observed and implemented. The safety of our customers and employees is always our highest priority. Furthermore, we ask you to wear a mask in the exam room. For the identity check as well as in case of a request by the supervisor, we ask you to remove your mask briefly. If you feel unwell, have a fever of over 37 degrees Celsius or severe symptoms such as coughing or sneezing, you are not allowed to enter the exam room. Absences due to illness are regulated in accordance with exam guidelines § 6.2 and § 12.

FAQ

  • Please note that the exam fees are non-refundable in case of cancellation.
  • It is also not possible to change the exam modalities (exam levels, complete exams, modular exams) after payment.
  • If the scheduled exams must be cancelled due to force majeure or the development of the Coronavirus crisis, they can be rescheduled to a later date in Osaka/Kyoto for free of charge.
  • If the exam can take place as planned, but you wish to change your exam date for personal reasons, neither rebooking nor refund of fees is possible.

*Course participants:
Those who have attended a course at a Goethe-Institut (worldwide/Japan) within the last six months (counted back from the examination day) pay the price for course participants.

While your exam is in progress, the usage of mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, wearable devices such as the Apple Watch, (electronic) dictionaries, IC recorders et al is strictly prohibited.
Any such electronic devices must be switched off before the start of the exam and handed over to the test supervisor. Upon request, electronic devices can be returned for the duration of the lunch break.
However, they must be handed in again, when the examination continues after the break.
The Goethe-Institut is not liable for any damages to the devices or any data loss occurring on the examination day.


*Option for partial repetition of A2 and C1 exams:
In addition to the option of repeating the examination as a whole, a one-off partial repetition is possible as of 2017 if only one part was passed in the last examination. This means that only the failed part - either the oral examination or the entire written examination - is repeated. The partial repetition is only possible at the same examination location.

Partial repetitions are possible within one year of taking the entire examination.


Passing grade of the two sections:
Of the maximum 75 points attainable in the written examination, at least 60% (= 45 points) must be achieved.
Of the maximum 25 points attainable in the oral examination, at least 60% (= 15 points) must be achieved.
Otherwise, the entire examination will be considered "failed".

Please note that the exam fee cannot be refunded in the event of cancellation.
