D.I.Y. and Improvisation
Felix Jung and Marc Einsiedel visited the Goethe-Institut Kenya in July 2015. Together with activists from Kenya and Uganda they exchanged views and insights over the course of some weeks about how art can be used within public spaces to create awareness of social problems. They both live and work in Hamburg.
In Kenya we were surprised by,
… the fact that during our work in Kibera and Kariobangi South we discovered very quickly a system that we appreciated with what at first seemed for us to be chaotic.
In Nairobi we were reminded of Hamburg by,
… the well established network among local artists and their hospitality.
Particular beautiful experiences during our visits were,
… first of all the invitation of the Goethe-Institut to come visit and explore Kenya. Additionally the remarkable close cooperation with PAWA254 and Office Accord (HAB). We were given insights into various types of environments and were given contacts to people all the way in Uganda. We are also very happy about the idea to come back and to continue our work.
Our favorite dishes in Kenya are,
... Irio (mash of potatoes, peas and maize), Matoke (mash of green plantain bananas) and, and, and …
Our motto of life is,
... D.I.Y. & improvisation.
