As part of the “My book – my teacher” project, over 24,500 books are to be handed out for free to refugee children, allowing them to partake in literature and thereby kindling the joy of reading.

Seven richly illustrated German children’s classics such as “Der Regenbogenfisch” (The Rainbow Fish) and “Die Schreimutter” (The Shouting Mother) are being reissued in Arabic or as a bilingual Arabic–German edition and are aimed at children aged 4–12 years. They are to be handed out to children and adolescents in underdeveloped parts of Lebanon. This will be accompanied by a puppet theatre that takes up the content of the books and develops playful approaches to the literature.

Besides handing out books, the project also provides accompanying materials and handouts for nursery teachers, school teachers and social workers to help work through the content and themes of the books with the children and adolescents.
