The sky over the divided Berlin of the 1980s is full of gentle, trench-coated angels who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. The angel Damiel wishes to become mortal after falling in love with the trapeze artist Marion. The American artist Peter Falk, who was an angel himself, assists Damiel in the transformation by explaining the simple joys of a human experience.
