Discussion An Arab World Without Artists

Sat, 02.12.2017

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Goethe-Institut Libanon | Media Lounge

The Arab region is currently witnessing many challenges and pressures that are exacerbated by the rise of dictatorships and/or the closing down of public space, the return of violence, the great migrations, and the tragic situation of Syrian refugees. This unfortunate situation is not only limited to Syrian artists, but also extends to their regional colleagues. Under this critical situation, we stand witness to the many risks associated with the migration of many artists from the Arab region to Europe in particular, which causes them to break away from their audience, and constitutes a threat to the much needed ingenuity, freedom of expression, and artistic creativity while they still struggle to continue their practice and remain resilient to these risks.
