Are you interested in Germany and the Germany language? Our library offers an up-to-date and representative selection of print and audio-visual media, which informs about current topics and trends in Germany. 70% of our collection consists of books and media in English language.

The library is open to the public, for anyone who wants to use its books and media or seeks information related to Germany.
However, in order to borrow books and media from the library, a membership is a must.

We have excellent special collections in our focal areas of Architecture and Visual Art.
To be a member, you need to fill in a registration form and present a photo identification (e.g. passport, driving license, national ID-Card).

The charges for a library membership are:
  • Annual membership: LKR 2000
The library membership is free of charge for language students of Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka for the duration of their course.

German teachers at schools and universities can submit a letter from their school authorities stating that they are teaching German at the time of inscription and renewal for a free library membership.

You can register online on our website. Please fill in this form beforehand, to enter the most important data for your registration and to confirm your mail address in advance. Then come to the library within the following 7 days to complete the enrolment process. The library team will also be happy to inform you during a personal visit.
Loan periods
Members are entitled to borrow ten media (maximum three from the language learning materials and maximum three DVDs).

Loan periods for all books and  media (books, journals, CDs, DVDs): 2 weeks

Items can be renewed by contacting the lending service by phone or e-mail.
