June Distractions

The Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) continues its series of Chamber Music concerts at the Goethe-Institut Hall on Sunday, June 26 (at 7 PM) in association with the Goethe-Institut, Colombo, and with the support of its co-premier sponsors, A. Baur & Co. and Tokyo Cement Group.

Titled ‘June Distractions,’ this concert will be approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes in duration. The CMSC would like this performance to be a welcome distraction to its loyal patrons, to both soothe and rejuvenate the psyche bogged down by the weight of the current crises. The evening begins with Mozart's effervescent ‘Salzburg Symphony,’ the Divertimento in B-flat, K137. and will also feature Mendelssohn's fresh-faced Seventh Sinfonia in D minor for string quintet, MWV N. 7, and Telemann's set of a dozen Heroic marches ‘Heldenmusik,' TWV 50:31-42. The featured musicians include the CMSC's Artistic Director, Lakshman Joseph-de Saram (violin I), Sulara Nanayakkara, (violin II), Avanti Perera (viola), Rochana Ramanayaka (cello), Nilanthi Weerakoon (double-bass), and Naveen Fernando (trumpet).

As usual, each work will be prefaced with a brief introduction by the artistic director. Tickets, priced at Rs. 1000 (first come, first served), are available at the Goethe-Institut gate, 39, R.G. Senanayake Mawatha (Gregory's Road), Colombo 7.
