International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) is observed gloablly on May 17 and is an opportunity to educate policy makers and the general public about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons, and to advocate for sensible public policies whereby LGBT persons are not marginalized or discriminated.
EQUAL GROUND has been observing IDAHOT since 2005 by organizing various events to create awareness and prompt conversations in public and in private. This year, EQUAL GROUND’s IDAHOT event will be held at the Goethe-Institut on the theme of ‘Challenge and Change’.
This event will comprise of two segments; an interactive discussion prompted by testimonies provided by survivors of the consequences of homophobia, biphobia or transphobia and an awareness raising video competition featuring submissions made by youth from rural areas of Sri Lanka on  the issue of intolerance and discrimination.
