Galle Fort

…and a dialog continues with Senthuran Varatharajah and authors from Jaffna

The Fairway Galle Literary Festival, since first launching in 2007 has become one of the most anticipated literary events in south east Asia for both authors and literary enthusiasts around the world. The 2019 festival will take place from January 16 – 20.

Located on the southern shores of the tropical isle of Sri Lanka, the festival is celebrated annually, in and around the historic Dutch Galle Fort, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As one of the cultural partners of the Galle Literary Festival, the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka will of course contribute to the festival’s program (Link zu: https://galleliteraryfestival.com/fglf-programme-2019/).
We are glad to bring the multiple award winning German novelist of Sri Lankan origin Senthuran Varatharajah to Galle.
His debut novel "Vor der Zunahme der Zeichen" was awarded the 3sat Prize, the Alfred Doblin Fellowship of the Berlin Academy of Acts, the Kranichesteiner Literaturförderpreis, the Bremer Literaturförderpreis, the Berlin Senate Fellowship, the Chamisso Award and the Rauriser Literaturpreis.
We already invited Senthuran last year to read from his debut novel in Colombo and Jaffna. During his stay in Jaffna we enabled a dialog between him and the Jaffnabased writers collective "Puthiya Sol " around Kirishanth and Yatharthan. Among other formats that are planned with Senthuran at Galle Literary Festival the dialog about belonging, identity and writing which begun 2018 in a Jaffna courtyard will be continued in the Galle Fort.
