Ania has a strange encounter on the way to work. In the middle of the park she faces a wolf. They look each other straight in the eye - and it feels like their life so far is a joke. The moment won't let you go, just like the thought of finding the wolf again and never letting go. Ania becomes a huntress, lays tracks and manages to catch the wild animal. She locks it up in her prefab apartment - and breaks all the fetters of her previous bourgeois life. Amazingly, people around her enjoy it, especially her boss Boris, who seeks their closeness like never before. It almost seems as if they all share a similar, secret, wild longing. "Wild" is a mind game about freedom.
The idea of a love story between a wolf and a woman was consequently and radically thought through to the end. What at first looks like oppressive realism soon turns into a wild journey into the depths of the imagination. The "Filmdienst" writes: "Soon the boundaries between hunter and prey, human and animal will crumble. The film convincingly tells of the 'becoming animal' as liberation from civilizational constraints, whereby the wilderness is spelled out not as a loss of control, but as a gain in emancipation. The utopian design never leaves the ground of reality, rather it outlines a scenario that is as open as it is full of allusions, which is based on the impressively fearless leading actress and the congenial camera work.
