Online-Reading with Antje Damm

International Children's Book Day has been celebrated on April 2nd, Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, since 1967. This is intended to support the joy of reading and arouse interest in books for children and young people. On this occasion we would like to invite you to an online reading with the illustrator and children's book author Antje Damm.

Antje Damm studied architecture in Darmstadt and Florence and initially worked as an architect before starting to write and illustrate children's books. It deals with universal topics that are at home in every language area: everyday experiences of children, friendships and family life, interculturality, foreignness and being different. Her illustrated question and reflection books characterize her typical illustration style as a mixture of drawings, photographs and collages, which, in combination with challenging questions, inspire children to think about philosophical topics.

Antje Damm used a new technique for her book “The Visit”: She recreates rooms from cardboard elements, inserts cut-out figures, colors and illuminates the scenes differently and then photographs them. The result is convincing all along the line! On Friday, April 2nd, Antje Damm will read from her picture book “The Visit” and use the book to explain a little bit the way from the idea to the finished book. She is also making a paper airplane with us, which plays an important role in the story and is happy to answer questions. For the paper plane you need a DIN A4 sheet of any color.

The reading will take place at 9 p.m. in ZOOM in German and Arabic. To participate, please follow the link

Please note that the event will be live streamed on Facebook. With your participation you agree to the publication. The reading will be moderated by Manar Badr and interpreted consecutively. We are very pleased to see you!
