Session 1: Panel debate on artistic freedom and international exchange beyond Covid-19 (2pm - 3:30pm CEST)
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the creative and cultural sectors hard and restricts the mobility and opportunities of artists worldwide. What did we learn from the pandemic about how to support artists and cultural activists in situations of political, social and economic threat? The panel will include
Khaled Barakeh (artist, cultural activist and founder of coculture e.V.),
Manmeet Kaur (MC and rap pioneer from India) and
António Pedro Mendes (project coordinator at the Berlin art space SAVVY Contemporary).
Session 2: Workshop: findings and recommendations on how to maintain spaces of artistic freedom beyond the Covid crisis (4pm - 5:30pm CEST)
The workshop (limited to max. 30 participants) aims to discuss the interim findings of MRI´s ongoing research project on artistic freedom and mobility with a focus on Turkey and the Middle East. Participants include
Pelin Çakır (researcher of the MRI study) and
Dr Ezgi Bakçay (researcher and curator and co-director of Karşı Sanat).
