A conversation between Franzobel and Nadishka Aloysius

The well-known Austrian painter, playwright, poet and writer Franzobel will be invited to the Goethe-Institut in partnership with the Austrian Embassy New Delhi and the Austrian Cultural Forum on 10 February 2022 and will read excerpts from his novel "The Raft of the Medusa" (2017). Actually Franz Stefan Griebl, born on March 1, 1967 in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria, completed an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering at the Höhere Technische Lehranstalt in Vöcklabruck and then studied German and history in Vienna. Even then he was enthusiastic about theatre and drama and also worked as an extra at the Burgtheater in Vienna. Since 1989 he has been working as a freelance writer and lives with his wife Maxi Blaha, who is also an actress, in different locations, including Vienna and Buenos Aires.

Image © Franzobel Franzobel has received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize (1995), the Arthur Schnitzler Prize (2002) and the Nicolas-Born-Prize (2017). Zsolnay recently published the crime novels Wiener Wunder (2014), Groschens Grab (2015) and Rechtswalzer (2019) as well as the novel "The Raft of the Medusa" in 2017, for which he was shortlisted for the German Book Prize and was awarded the Bavarian Book Prize. Most recently, the novel The Conquest of America was published in 2021.

Image © Nadishka Aloysius The event will be moderated by the teacher of drama and English language, actress and author Nadishka Aloysius. With over 20 years of experience and mother of two sons who love reading time, she finds inspiration in the small everyday details of life. Nadishka loves to read crime novels and fantasy, and this is reflected in her writing for children, teens, and an adult audience. She leads creative writing workshops and visits schools to share her love of literature. As an actress, she prefers the antagonist because it allows her to explore the dark sides of human nature.
Her debut novel for children Ronan's Dinosaur was nominated for the State Literary Awards in 2019, while her first novella Raavana's Daughter was nominated for the State Literary Award in 2020 and nominated for the prestigious Gratiaen Award. She with her book "The Easter Sunday" the prize for the best children's book at the State Literary Prize 2021.

After the reading there is the possibility of a discussion with the author.
