The Goethe-Institut invites you to a reading by Nadishka Aloysius from the German Children`s Book Classic
"Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner" on Saturday, 19th February 2022 at 02:00 pm.in the Public Library Colombo followed by a film screening of the said book. (Children`s Section).
Synopsis:
A classic detective story told at a cracking pace, this features one of the first fictional child detectives. When Emil is robbed of his mother’s hard earned savings from right out of his pocket as he is asleep on a train, he takes swift action. Emil has no confidence in the police and so recruits his own assistant, Gustav. The two boys round up a group of friends and catch the thief. Emil is handsomely rewarded and all ends happily. Emil is charming and clever, the ideal hero of this terrific adventure.

The reading of the book
"Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner" will be conducted in English language by the teacher of drama and English language, actress and author Nadishka Aloysius. With over 20 years of experience and mother of two sons who love reading time, she finds inspiration in the small everyday details of life. Nadishka loves to read crime novels and fantasy, and this is reflected in her writing for children, teens, and an adult audience. She leads creative writing workshops and visits schools to share her love of literature. As an actress, she prefers the antagonist because it allows her to explore the dark sides of human nature.
Her debut novel for children Ronan's Dinosaur was nominated for the State Literary Awards in 2019, while her first novella Raavana's Daughter was nominated for the State Literary Award in 2020 and nominated for the prestigious Gratiaen Award. She with her book "The Easter Sunday" the prize for the best children's book at the State Literary Prize 2021.
Followed by a film screening of the film in the Children`s Section of the Public Library Colombo.
