Westminster to Bohemia, via Weimar

The Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) is pleased to present their inaugural concert of the year. The concert is on two days at the Goethe-Institut Hall, on Saturday 26 March and Sunday 27 March 2022 at 7:15pm on both days, and will follow prevailing COVID 19 protocols.

The concert will take the form of an eclectic musical journey, and is entitled “Westminster to Bohemia, via Weimar”. The concert features Lakshman Joseph de Saram (artistic director) and Sulara Nanayakkara, violins; Rochana Ramanayaka, cello; and Johann Peiris, piano. Each work will be prefaced by a short introduction by the artistic director.

Westminster will be represented by the “Golden Sonata” by Purcell; Weimar will be represented by a lesser known Bach – Wilhelm Friedmann’s Trio Sonata in B-flat, “Tempesta di Mare” (stormy seas); and from Bohemia we have Johann Stamitz’s Trio Sonata no. 8 in C; as well as the great Antonin Dvorak’s delectable 5 Bagatelles, Op. 47 (B. 79 for the Burghauser-inclined).

Tickets, priced at Rs. 1000 (first come, first served) are available for purchase from the Security post at the Goethe-Institut.The CMSC is expecting the concert to be sold out on both days, so loyal patrons are kindly requested to procure their tickets early.

The concert is presented in association with the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka and with the support of CMSC's Co-Premier sponsors, Tokyo Cement Group and Baurs.
