KAFKA IN VIRTUAL REALITY

Kafka’s story VRWandlung/The Metamorphosis describes the feelings of a travelling salesman awakening one morning in the body of a beetle; it never resolves how and why this happened. “‘VRwandlung’ transfers Franz Kafka’s work from the pages of a book to virtual reality. The protagonist is no longer Gregor Samsa, but you,” explains Mika Johnson, the director who created the theme room with his young start-up team.

The VR adaptation of Franz Kafkas “The Metamorphosis” gives people the chance to discover the life of Gregor Samsa and to feel the transformation into a bug on their own body. “As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.” Now with VR technology you can wake up as a huge insect in a room faithfully reproduced after the original. During this 6 minutes experience, you as Gregor Samsa can explore the bed room, pull out some drawers and find the key to unlock the door…once the door opens and the game ends.

The metamorphosisVR was developed by the Goethe-Institut Prague together with a Czech start up coordinated by a film director of Prague Film School Mika Johnson and is presented in Jaffna by the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka.
