In light of the unprecedented economic crisis and political change in Sri Lanka in 2022, the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka and the Goethe-Institut Chennai in partnership with the Chennai Photo Biennale Foundation came together to support four emerging photographers who were documenting the multifold economic hardships, the people’s protest movement and other topics of relevance in their respective surroundings during that time.

The People's Voice is Louder is a reflective work on last year's situation and incidents in Sri Lanka drawing from the Capturing the Current images of the photographers and curated and edited by the Chennai Photo Biennale. It was previously screened at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2022-23, Ahmedabad National Photography Festival and presented in conjuncture with the photography exhibition at the Alliance Française of Madras.

The screening at the Goethe-Institut will be followed by a panel discussion with artists Lojithan Ram (virtual), Nayanahari Abeynayake, Pirainila Krishnarajah (virtual) and Riyal Riffai.
