Literature in Focus

Literature (c) Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka

The Goethe-Institut will start the year 2018 with a comprehensive literary focus: Four German-speaking writers will come to Sri Lanka to present their works in Galle, Colombo and / or Jaffna. They will read from their current works, meet and exchange with writers from the country and the world and other local cultural actors, discuss with the audience and thus get impressions of the country and its people. The Literary Festival in Galle at the 24.-28.th of January is certainly a focal point, to which we welcome the well-known writer Michael Kumpfmüller and the respected children's book author and illustrator Ute Krause. The audience in Colombo will also have the opportunity to personally experience Michael Kumpfmüller and Ute Krause: after their stay in Galle, both will perform at the Goethe-Institut in Colombo. We invite you to a reading with Michael Kumpfmüller and a creative exchange with Ute Krause on the 30th of January.
The first literary guest will be the well-known novelist and non-fiction author Norman Ohler, who will give the listener insights into his work in both genres on the 17th of January. On 24th February, we will be happy to present the outstanding writer of Tamil origin Senthuran Varatharjah in Jaffna and Colombo and bring them into contact and exchange with the literary scene in Sri Lanka.
