The Brass Section

The Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) will highlight the principals of the brass section of the orchestra in a lively recital of music from Renaissance to Contemporary. Performing will be Naveen Fernando, trumpet I. Hemanga Samaraweera, trumpet II. Saman Kularatne, french-horn.
Nisantha Premalal, trombone. Thilak Thanthrige, tuba.

There are numerous elements that have led to the growth of the modern brass quintet. When considering the repertoire, one must first start at the beginning with early renaissance madrigals and canzons, then, explore how the development of new instruments and styles over the ages influenced the art. Considering these aspects it is possible to see the intricacies and multilayered progressions that have come together to form the contemporary brass quintet. The recital will illustrate the progression the music and instruments of the brass family took. The Artistic Director of the CMSC, Lakshman Joseph-de Saram will moderate.
