The Programme
The three-month residency is designed for Malaysian artists working in visual, discursive, or performative practices.
Applicants are required to:
- Have a minimum of three years of professional artistic practice
- Demonstrate a good command of English
Preference will be given to proposals that are site-specific, research-oriented, and engage with local communities.
The Residency
Residency Period: October - December 2026.
Location: basis e.V., Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The selected artist will receive:
- A monthly stipend of €1,000
- Round-trip international travel (economy class)
- Travel insurance
- Accommodation
- Studio/workspace for the duration of the residency
The Selection
The selection process consists of two stages:
- Shortlisting by a jury panel based in Malaysia
- Final selection by a jury panel in Frankfurt am Main
The jury includes representatives of basis e.V., Think & Tink, and Goethe-Institut Malaysia. External experts, including artists and curators, may be invited to participate. The final selection of Malaysian candidates is made by the jury in Frankfurt, coordinated by basis e.V.
The jury’s decision is final. In Malaysia, only shortlisted applicants will be notified. The winner will be announced on the institute’s social media and website.
Applicants must submit:
- Completed online application form
- Letter of motivation (dated and signed)
- Artist biography and CV
- Digital portfolio, including work samples and descriptions of relevant projects, particularly site-specific work
