Local Languages
The Goethe-Institut Namibia offers Oshiwambo and Afrikaans courses for beginners.
The courses are offered in an interactive and conversational manner. The instructor/teacher follows a communicative approach where all skills such as speaking, listening, reading and writing are taught.
Oshiwambo is a Bantu language spoken by about 1 million people in Namibia and Angola. At least 60% of the Namibian population speaks Oshiwambo.
Afrikaans is spoken by about 8 million people in Namibia and South Africa. It is relatively easy to learn Afrikaans if you already speak other Germanic languages like English, German and Dutch.
Students at the Goethe-Institut Namibia participate in conversations and discussions, play games and complete group activities in which they apply the languages to everyday situations.
