German Teachers’ Training Programme
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation.
The Goethe-Institut Nigeria is inviting suitable applicants for a training programme that will run from 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024 and that will focus on: Teaching of German as a Foreign Language.
Programme Outline:
- B2 – C1 intensive German online language course
- Supervised observation of German lessons and preparation of small teaching units
- Two evaluated demonstration lessons in our classrooms in Lagos
- Online training in didactics and teaching methodology
- Training and accreditation as A1 – A2 Goethe-Institut examiner
Requirements:
- BA Degree in German Studies, Linguistics, another language or a comparable degree
- Proof of very good B1 German language proficiency
- Full-time availability for the duration of the programme on site in Lagos
- Above-average commitment, considering the scope and duration of the programme
- Strong interest in teaching
- Openness to new teaching methods, especially digital tools and online learning
- Ability to work in a team, intercultural competence, diligence, resilience and reliability
- Flexibility and willingness to work in the evening and also on weekends
- After successful completion of programme: Availability to teach for the Goethe-Institut in Lagos (also in the evening and weekends), and also conduct exams within Nigeria
- Nigerian work permit and place of residence in Lagos
