We are watching “GANZ NAH BEI DIR” by Almut Getto. The film will be screened in German with English subtitles on Wednesday and Friday.
Phillip’s life is uneventful and safe. He shares his beautiful apartment with a turtle, and he is woken up every day by the timer on his ironing machine. His daily tasks are straightforward and his job at the bank is secure. His judgment is unerring when it comes to distinguishing counterfeit bank notes from real ones.
He reacts gruffly when the blind Lina trips over his feet in a bar, seemingly fearful of anything out of the ordinary. He is also afraid of the dark and of any kind of situation where he is not in control. He seeks shelter at Lina’s place for the night when thieves clean out his apartment, but the two must overcome a whole series of conflicts before they can grow closer.
Things come together due to a chance event whereby Phillip finally shows he is capable of spontaneity and boldness, and he even evinces a talent for crime. The young lady’s strength of character plays a decisive part in this as well.
