The first edition of the FOTOPARTY Lagos 2018 is dedicated to the young talents of the Nlele Institute mentee program.
In February 2018, The Nlele Institute initiated a-5 year mentoring program to identify, train and promote a new crop of young photographers in Nigeria. The program will focus on the reflective aspect of photography through consistent engagement with the participants in a series of workshops that will emphasize on critical thinking, research & critical writing, visual storytelling, development of photography projects, exchange programs, participants (individual/group) seminar projects and portfolio reviews.
The first phase of the program, which started on the 20th of February 2018, will last for two years (and executed in a quarterly format). This period will ensure that the participants have ample time to develop individually and collectively. Within this time frame, the participants will be evaluated by mentors (with multidisciplinary backgrounds) drawn from Nigeria and abroad.
The first phase will be followed by a series of exhibitions and a major publication in the third year. The final two years will be open to collaborations, participation in photography peak moments in Nigeria and in other platforms across Africa in order to provide visibility for all the participants.
FOTO PARTY Lagos will serve as the initial platform of visibility for this group and we hope to take it further beyond Lagos.
