“If the ability to tell right from wrong should have anything to do with the ability to think, then we must be able to ‘demand’ its exercise in every sane person no matter how erudite or ignorant.”
― Hannah Arendt, The Life of the Mind

Philosopher Hannah Arendt would be most critical of today's polarized social and political climate. Her work is both a demand to exercise critical thinking of one's own beliefs and positions, and of staying at the table: to keep engaging with others even if their ideas are radically different from one's own. The table that separates us is also the table we sit at together. What matters is to stay at the table, despite our differences.

But did she fully live by her own words? Weren't there moments that she removed herself from the table and stopped engaging with some of her friends? Are there ever good enough reasons to leave the table, or must we stay at it no matter what?
In this interactive meeting Dr. Joop Berding will speak with us on the ideas of Hannah Arendt and what came of them in her personal life, and we will engage in dialogue together, to find out what we need to stay at the table with those we disagree with.
The session will be moderated by Winnie Hänschen.

NL
