Birgit Moffatt

Artist Birgit Moffatt grew up in the DDR before emigrating to New Zealand. As the exhibition, “In-visible Threads”, in the Goethe-Institut draws to a close, Birgit Moffatt will enter into a dialogue with her audience at an evening with the artist. She will talk about her creative way of dealing with her childhood behind the Berlin Wall and its impact on her life.
 

Biography

Birgit Moffatt is a practising artist originally from Germany, who now calls New Zealand/Aotearoa her home. She moved from her birth town Berlin to the lower part of the North Island in 2011.

Coming to New Zealand was not only a change in culture, location and lifestyle but also the beginning of her creative adventure that eventually lead to an artistic career path.
In 2017 she received a Bachelor of Applied Arts majoring in textiles. Birgit is currently working out of her studio where she creates art for galleries and exhibitions, and she also runs workshops.
