Photographer, Bouncer and Subculture-Icon.

Born and raised in East Berlin, artist Sven Marquardt is probably one of the most popular and polarising photographers of Berlin’s subculture. He started his career as a fashion photographer in the 1980s and soon discovered his interest in portrait photography captioning humanity and indulging his interest in faces both in elaborately staged photography and documentary-like style. His interest in his fellow human beings and their faces comes in handy as Sven is also well known as  the bouncer for Berlin’s famous nightclub Berghain. He can be considered an icon of Germany's techno club scene.

Sven will be in New Zealand on a short stint while being an artist-in-residence in Sydney/Australia. He will be in conversation with photographer Helen Mitchell to discuss his life, his projects and whither the future might take him.
